I’m Moving to Canada

After 2 months of meetings and discussions followed by applying, waiting, and lastly organising everything, I can finally officially announce that I’M MOVING TO CANADA!

Through my job, I’ll be transferring to our Vancouver office and start working on projects over there at the end of August. I’m flying at the start of August (in less than a week!) and will have 3 weeks to settle in, look for a flat and explore the city, I can’t wait!

I’ve waited until now to announce the news, as my boyfriend was still waiting for his visa to be approved (I only have to apply at the border), which meant the last few weeks were quite stressful, not knowing if he would get his visa back in time.

Luckily, everything is sorted now. He has his visa, I have my application for a visa ready to take with me, we sent our belongings to be shipped right before leaving on our holiday to Italy while giving everything else we weren’t taking with us to charity. The last few days before our Italy trip have been so hectic with barely any sleep, but it’s all sorted now and all we have to do is board the plane to Vancouver.

I’ve lived in the UK for almost 7 years, of which 4 in London. I really enjoyed my time living here, even though I have a love/hate relationship with London. It was time for a break, a little adventure, so when the opportunity came around to transfer to the Vancouver office, I couldn’t say no!

I’ll keep writing about England and Europe, as I still have so many stories to tell, but from now on, you’ll see quite a few posts about Canada pop up, as well as tips/advice/my struggles about moving abroad.

If you have any advice/tips for me, about living in Canada/Vancouver and places I should definitely visit, let me know in the comments!

    1. Thank you Abbi! I’ve been here 3 days now and love it! I still need to start exploring Vancouver, as there is so much I have to sort out (flat, phone number, bank account etc…) but I can’t wait to get out into the mountains 🙂

  2. Hi Lies,

Oh wow. I stumbled across your blog through Pinterest. And I am so excited to read about your new endeavours in Vancouver! In about 3 weeks my husband and I are moving to Vancity as well, from your neighbouring country Holland. This week it suddenly hit me, thinking about the goobyes to my loved ones at Schiphol Airport, my lovely home, my own company that I had to give up… And it felt like I was somehwat on the verge of a mental breakdown. But the thruth is I allways wanted to live abroad, persue adventures, rediscover myself on a regular basis. Finding your blog really has lifted my spirits! I feel so much better about my move to Vancouver now. I can see, through your beautiful pictures and stories, that I’m going to have an amazing time in one of the worlds most beautiful places! The mountains are calling! What an amazing opportunity. Something I should be very grateful for! Thank you so much for letting me see and feel this!

  3. Congratulations! I wish you all the best! Canada is a lovely country with very polite and friendly people… great nature, too. Have an amazing time exploring it! 🙂

  4. Door 5 jaar te werken in Canada kreeg ik de kans om dit prachtige land te ontdekken. Jammer genoeg ben ik weer terug in België. Veel succes, Vancouver is een geweldige stad!
