Eco-Friendly Travel Essentials: Discover Canadian-Made Clothing for Your Next Adventure

Sustainable fashion for conscious travellers

I’ve spent years travelling across BC, Canada and Europe, discovering sustainable clothing brands that align with my values. Canada and BC have been making waves in eco-friendly clothing and sustainable fashion, paving the way for brands that prioritise the planet without sacrificing style. Living in Vancouver, I feel connected to many ethical, Canadian-made sustainable brands and appreciate the ability to support local makers directly.

While my personal history with Canada isn’t decades long, it has been a meaningful part of my life, and I’m excited to support brands that embody these values. Here’s a closer look at some of these brands and why they work for me (and many others).

Londre

Where they’re from: Vancouver, Canada

The lowdown: Londre Bodywear offers swimwear and activewear made from recycled plastic bottles, with each piece repurposing at least six bottles. Their eco-conscious designs are perfect for outdoor adventures, whether you’re hiking along BC’s coast or lounging on a tropical beach. With a focus on durability, Londre’s swimwear is not only flattering with sculpting fits that enhance your shape, but also made to last.

Their ethical production processes in Vancouver and Taiwan, alongside their take-back programme for upcycling old pieces, show their commitment to sustainability every step of the way.

Personal thoughts: I love how Londre blends sustainability with truly flattering, well-made swimwear. Their pieces feel incredible on—supportive, sculpting, and designed to move with you, whether you’re lounging by the water or out on an adventure.

Many of their styles have cheeky cuts that show off some skin, but what I really appreciate is how thoughtfully designed they are to fit and flatter. If you prefer a bit more coverage, they’ve also introduced designs that offer more fabric without compromising their signature style.

DUER

Where they’re from: Vancouver, Canada

The lowdown: When I’m travelling, comfort and versatility are essential, which is why DUER’s stretch denim has become a go-to in my wardrobe. Made from a blend of organic cotton, recycled materials, and TENCEL®, these pants are breathable, flexible, and perfect for long travel days, whether I’m hiking through the Rockies or strolling through city streets in Europe.

DUER seamlessly blends technical performance with a stylish, everyday aesthetic, making them ideal for active travellers who want functional, comfortable pieces that don’t scream “travel gear.”

Personal thoughts: I’ve had a bit of a mixed experience with DUER when it comes to fit—some styles haven’t been the most flattering on me. But my latest two denim pairs? Absolute game-changers. The fit is spot on, the stretch is just right, and they’re incredibly comfortable without losing their shape. They move with me, whether I’m out exploring or just tackling a long travel day.

One thing I really appreciate is how well they hold up—no sagging after multiple wears, and they keep their colour even after repeated washes. DUER also gets points for using fabric that’s breathable and flexible, which makes them perfect for outdoor activities like hiking or long days on the go. The gusseted crotch and reinforced stitching ensure they can stand up to whatever I throw at them.

While I’ve had some hit-or-miss experiences with the fit, when DUER nails it, they really nail it—and I’m happy to have found that with these latest pairs.

Tentree

Where they’re from: Vancouver, Canada

The lowdown: Tentree’s ultra-soft basics and cosy layers are perfect for long-haul flights or chilly evenings on the go. Made from sustainable materials like organic cotton and recycled polyester, these pieces offer comfort while keeping the planet in mind. Tentree plants ten trees for every item purchased, and with a unique code on each product, you can track where your trees are planted.

Their focus on sustainability, paired with their cosy, eco-conscious designs, makes them an ideal travel companion for those who want to pack light and green.

Personal thoughts: I have quite a few pieces from Tentree, and while they aren’t the most stylish, they are incredibly comfortable and perfect for lounging or working from home. Their sweaters are soft and cosy, and easy to throw on for a casual day. I also love their hats—they’re great quality and add a nice finishing touch to a laid-back look.

Tentree isn’t about high fashion; it’s about comfort, and that’s what I love most about their pieces. I appreciate their commitment to sustainability, too—each item comes with a unique tree code so you can track where your trees are planted. While I wouldn’t wear their pieces out on the town, they’re exactly what I need for a relaxed day at home.

Vessi

Where they’re from: Vancouver, Canada

The lowdown: Vessi’s waterproof sneakers are ideal for those who want reliable, comfortable footwear for both city walks and outdoor adventures. With their 100% waterproof knit and eco-friendly manufacturing process, these shoes keep feet dry and comfortable, whether navigating rain-soaked streets or hiking through coastal trails.

Made with sustainable, vegan materials, Vessi focuses on reducing water consumption and waste, ensuring a durable and breathable design. Perfect for travelling light and conscious living, these sneakers combine innovation with environmental impact.

Personal thoughts: I’ve tried several Vessi shoes, and while I’m not a fan of some of the bulkier styles, I do really like their sleeker options. The shoes are breathable and great for keeping my feet dry, but I’ve found them to be a bit stiff at first and quite slippery on wet surfaces, which is a concern in certain conditions.

That said, they’re durable and hold up well with use. I’ve also been really impressed with their new waterproof jacket—it’s stylish, functional and perfect for city trips!

Whether you’re packing for a trip or simply looking for everyday essentials that are sustainable and functional, these Vancouver-based brands—Vessi, Londre, DUER, and Tentree—offer stylish, eco-friendly options for conscious travellers. They make it easy to support the planet while staying comfortable and looking good. My personal experience with each brand has shown me that it’s possible to balance style, sustainability, and performance—and I’m glad to have these pieces in my wardrobe for every adventure, big or small.
